Case II · Aureline · Brand film

Sixty seconds of stillness.

A fragrance house launching into the loudest feed on earth asked for a film that would fit in. We made one that refused to.

The category brief writes itself: three cuts a second, a trending sound, text that yells the offer before the thumb can move. Aureline came to us with that brief, because it’s the one everyone is handed. A quiet house, about to launch its first fragrance, dressed up as a discount airline.

The product was stillness — a scent built around cold stone and paper. The marketing was panic. That gap was the entire problem, and also the entire opportunity.

“In a feed of shouting, a whisper is the loudest thing on the page.

The signal02

We threw out the category brief and cut against it. One minute. Eleven shots. No voiceover, no captions, no music until the fortieth second — just room tone, the sound of paper, and a bottle that is never fully shown until the last frame. Four moments in the film hold for more than five seconds each, which in feed time is an eternity, and in human time is a breath.

The bet was simple: the scroll is a reflex, and reflexes are broken by contrast, not volume. Everything around the film would be fast. The film would be the only still thing on the screen.

We storyboarded the pauses before we storyboarded the shots. The film was designed around what it refused to do.

The cut03

One master film, then fourteen quiet derivatives — verticals, squares, six-second stills for placements that couldn’t hold a minute. Every version kept the rule: no shouting, one breath minimum, the bottle last. The discipline travelled; the film never diluted.

It was watched the way almost nothing in the category is watched: to the end.
